Tsunami Youth Wrestling Practice
South Beach Tsunami Youth Wrestling is a new program spearheaded by Britnee Parsons for elementary-aged kids in Kindergarten through 6th grade
When Britnee Parsons found herself making the drive to Raymond so her two boys could wrestle, she realized something was missing in our community. While surrounding towns all have youth wrestling programs, Westport and Grayland families had no local option. Ocosta Junior and Senior High School has wrestling, but there was nothing for children younger than 7th grade.
As someone who wrestled all through high school herself, taking 3rd place at State, Britnee knows firsthand what this sport can do for young people. "Back in the day, Ocosta had an amazing wrestling program," Britnee explains. "It has sort of dwindled over the years.”
That's why, this fall, she started South Beach Tsunami Youth Wrestling, and the response has been incredible: 32 kids have signed up, and 29 of them have never wrestled before!
Youth wrestling builds confidence, strength, and community. Britnee hopes that bringing back a robust youth program will help rebuild Ocosta's wrestling legacy. She also emphasizes that girls can wrestle too. “Girls wrestling is becoming such a big thing in our state. I want to give young girls the opportunity to be strong and independent from an early age.”
Where the Money Goes
The fundraiser will help cover the costs that make participation possible: singlets (the uniforms wrestlers wear), headgear, shoes, and USA Wrestling membership. The goal is to ensure every child has what they need to compete, regardless of financial barriers.
Tsunami Youth Wrestling will have (and host) their first tournament on November 8th at Ocosta High School. The team will also compete in Raymond, Centralia, and Adna.

A Community Effort
This fundraiser wouldn't be possible without the incredible support of local businesses who donated raffle items: Tokeland Candleworks, Bay City Sausage, Captain Jacks, Kanoa Bird Beading, Evergreen Flower Farm, Whale of A Cone, Beachin’ Beauty Boutique, Lunar Tides Jewelry, White Cap Espresso, The Blue Buoy, Opal Medical Spa, Cornett Farms, South Bay Espresso, and some lovely local individual community members.
Let's show these young wrestlers what South Beach community spirit is all about. See you at The Loge this Saturday!
