CALL TO ACTION: Protect Westport Light State Park
Proposed Golf Fairways in Westport Light State Park
When: On Thursday January 29th Westport Golf Links will be presenting at the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission meeting at Department of Ecology, 300 Desmond Dr SE, Lacey, WA 98503. Deadline for written comment January 23rd, 5pm
What's at stake: Westport Golf Links will present an update to the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission. Westport Light State Park is public land—it belongs to all of us and should remain accessible to all Washingtonians, not converted into a golf course for a select few.
The proposed golf course would destroy up to 43 acres of rare coastal wetlands—the largest wetland impact ever proposed in Washington State. These irreplaceable wetlands provide critical stopover habitat for migratory shorebirds. The project also raises serious concerns about pesticide and fertilizer runoff.
